Profession

Contents

A profession (also known as Trade Skill) in Warhammer Online consists of 4 gathering skills and 2 crafting skills. The tradeskills are used by players to gather or create various items. You can only have one Gathering and one Crafting skill at a time. These skills can be changed, but you will lose all your skill level progress if you do.

[edit] Training

Trade skills can be learned from specialized Profession Trainers in Chapter 2, Capital Cities and many other encampments around the world. *Note - Not all trainers have an icon over their head, but all trainers have their profession in gold above their head.* A player may only have 1 gathering profession and 1 crafting profession at any given time. You may also unlearn your profession by going to any tradeskill Trainer. You will then be able to change professions and choose another tradeskill. This will reduce your skill to 0 and your character will no longer have access to that profession.

[edit] Gathering Skills

Gathering skills are used to obtain items for use in crafting or other gathering professions. It is also a great source to earn gold while leveling.

[edit] Butchering & Scavenging

Butchering and Scavenging are very alike. The main difference is the item they’ll receive from different mobs they use their skill on. Butchering is used on non-sentient mobs and Scavenging is used on the more intelligent mobs.

[edit] Magical Salvaging

Magical Salvaging is the skill and ability to break down magical items into Magical Fragments. These magical items can be found in a variety of places including PvP, PvE, RvR, questing, mobs and many other places. The player is also able to choose what type of fragment they want to extract from the item based on the current stat buffs already on the item. In other words, you may not get an intelligence fragment from the item unless that item adds a buff to intelligence.

[edit] Crafting Skills

Crafting skills are used to create items that can be consumed, used or embedded into your equipment. These items can also be sold to other players in the game. The auction house is an ideal place sell your excess inventory. Crafting skills can be initially expensive to level at first but can yield great returns at end game.

[edit] Apothecary

Apothecary is the skill and ability to turn ingredients from cultivating into consumables such as potions, lotions or powders. Each potion takes up to 4 ingredients. 1 primary and 3 additional. Different ingredients brings different effects, the level of the effect as well as the duration of the effect.

For RvR, it is more suggested to use a potion that adds a short but strong effect as you want to be able to max out your abilities during your session. For PvE, you would use something that has a longer effect in order to conserve. Longer durations suffer from a weaker stat or buff provided from the potion.

It is even possible for your potion to fail due to a lack of ingredients and at times you may even be luckier and have an added bonus. Apothecary has long been known as an alchemist in majority of the popular MMORPGs.

[edit] Talisman Making

Talisman Making allows you to make talismans which are items of minor power that can be added onto items for added effect. To create a talisman, you need 4 ingredients known as fragments which is obtained from magical items, A player with magical salvaging is required in order to break the magical item and turn them into fragments.

A container is required in order to craft the talismans. The overall power of the 4 fragments are used to determine the overall power of the talisman. Some talismans give bonuses to stats, resistance, or armor. The stronger talismans can give much more powerful bonuses. This trade skill has been popularly known as a spellcrafter in Dark Age of Camelot and enchanting or jewelcrafting in World of Warcraft.
